Theistic Evolution: A Scientific, Philosophical, and Theological Critique edited by J. P. Moreland , Stephen C. Meyer, Christopher Shaw, Ann K. Gauger, and Wayne Grudem. Crossway, 2022.
Most of us will want to make time for this book. It won the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association’s Book of the Year Award for Bible Reference Works. There are over 170 reviews on Amazon and they are almost unanimous 5 stars.
The goal of the book is to refute Theistic Evolution, a view that holds that Darwinian evolution is consistent with Evangelical Christianity. Some prominent leaders have said that Christians must change their understanding of the Bible and abandon God’s intelligent design and providential care of creation because of new scientific findings.
Its editors and other contributors include some of the Evangelicalism’s leading scholars in various fields. They trained at institutions such as Cal Teach, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, MIT, University of Chicago, Harvard, and other leading schools throughout the world. They hold significant research and teaching positions.
The print version of the book is over 900 pages. The chapters include:
The Failure of Neo-Darwinism.
Three Good Reasons for People of Faith to Reject Darwin’s Explanation of Life.
Why DNA Mutation Cannot Accomplish What Neo-Darwinism Requires.
The Case against Universal Common Descent and for a Unique Human Origen.
Evidence for Human Uniqueness.
Theistic Evolution and the Problem of Natural Evil.
The book is designed to be a textbook and the articles are accessible to non-specialists.
C. S. Lewis on Evolution.
I have read most of the book and will finish the rest. The chapters are well-written and can be read in any order. The discussion of RNA, DNA, genetics and thermodynamics are very helpful.
Highly recommended.
