Book Note: James Como. C. S. Lewis. A Very Short Introduction. James Como, editor. Remembering C.S. Lewis: Recollections of Those Who Knew Him

On November 7-8, 2025 I attended a series of lectures by James Como on C. S. Lewis at the Shell Point Retirement Community.

I have been aware of Como’s Lewis scholarship since the 1980s.

Most of the content of his lectures is contained in the following book.

James Como. C. S. Lewis. A Very Short Introduction.

This book is essential for those interested in C. S. Lewis. It covers his life, writing, views, and the reactions of others to his work from varying perspectives.

I also own Matthew Townend. J.R.R. Tolkien: A Very Short Introduction in this series.

Como also edited:

James Como, editor. Remembering C.S. Lewis: Recollections of Those Who Knew Him

This book is an reissue of the following:

James Como, editor. C. S. Lewis at the Breakfast Table and Other Reminiscences 1979.

This book records the remembrances of some of those who knew and work with Lewis.

Como’s died on November 24, 2025, less than 3 weeks after he lectured at Shell Point.

He was a Professor at York College. This is their statement on his death.

The Passing of a Beloved Professor Who Defined an Era at Our Institution

Como was a founding member of the New York C. S. Lewis Society. This is their statement.

New York C.S. Lewis Society

All of Como’s work would be important to those who want to expand their knowledge of C. S. Lewis.
