What are you going to do in 2019? I’ve made plans.

The Devil, the world, and our flesh have plans for our time. We need to intervene.

The author of Psalm 119 tells us that he stored God’s word in his heart so he wouldn’t sin. (Psalm 119:11)

In Romans 12:1, Paul began his section on applying our salvation by encouraging us to be transformed. We are not to be conformed to this world. Reading God’s word does this for us.

Before he died, Peter told the early church that God’s written world is surer that our experiences. It is even surer than one of Peter’s greatest experiences. He was at the Transfiguration when Jesus shone brightest white, Moses and Elijah appeared, and the voice of God was heard from heaven. (2 Peter 1:16-21; Matthew 17:1-9)

What I did in 2017

My church publicly encourages us to read through the Bible each year. We usually use the One-Year Bible. It is encouraged from the pulpit and copies are available for us to purchase at the church.

If you are a leader or influential with your leaders, it would be a very good idea to encourage them to do this.

What I am doing in 2018

This year I am doing something different. I am reading through the Living Bible. I have never read it through before.

It is good to read a paraphrase or a different translation than you usually use because things will look different. You will stop to look up a verse and be challenged on how you understand it.

What I will do in 2019

Next year I will read through the One Year Chronological Bible. This will be a different format. The passages will be in chronological not canonical order. It will present the passages a little differently and cause me to read more slowly and think.

The Devil, the world, and our flesh have plans for our time. We need to intervene.

Question for consideration:

What program will you use to read through the Bible in 2019?
