This is a very thoughtful article about the future of Western culture.

The recent history of the United States and Europe have seen divisive elections and elites who have rigged the economy and civic institutions against groups of people. These people feel deeply alienated. They want wholesale changes in society even if they may cause upheaval.

Civilizations rise and fall and there have been observable patterns:

Governments do not maintain infrastructure.

There is pervasive debt at all levels.

Governments do not prepare for predictable disasters.

Nations are not prepared to defend against declared opponents.

Laws are enforced selectively or not at all.

Beliefs systems are aiming to destroy stability and stop opposition.

Regulations slow progress and needed maintenance.

People use the legal system against their opponents.
