Book Note: Francis A. Schaeffer. How Should We Then Live.

Francis A. Schaeffer. How Should We Then Live.

This book first came out in 1976 and has several reprints. It has been very influential in Evangelical theology.

His wife Edith was raised in China by missionary parents. Her book is very helpful in understanding their work. L’Abri (New Expanded Edition) Paperback – Illustrated, April 28, 1992

The Schaeffers moved to Switzerland in 1948 and founded L’Abri (French for “shelter”) in 1955. It was a place of retreat and discussion. I have some friends who stayed there. There are branches in Europe and North America.

He died in 1984.

Francis Schaeffer was a prolific author and art critic. Two of his works have been turned into film series.

How Should We Then Live? The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture (1976).

Whatever Happened to the Human Race? (1979). A Christian response to abortion, euthanasia and infanticide narrated by Francis Schaeffer and future Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop.

His twenty-two books are available on Amazon.

He was also influential in American conservative politics.

I highly recommend this book.
