How do we know when we are not being faithful to God? The answer might surprise you.

One of God’s prophets was sure he knew what was wrong. As God answered his prayer, he learned about the real problem.

Contentment is a virtue we need to see in our lives

The prophet’s prayer About 600 years before Jesus was born, the prophet Habakkuk looked at the Jewish people and saw lawlessness and godlessness. He asked God what he was going to do.

God said that he was bringing the Babylonians to judge his people.

Habakkuk said he could not do that because they were worse than the Jews.

Habakkuk saw the world as two peoples, Jew and Gentile.

God saw it differently. (Habakkuk 1)

God’s two groups of people

God saw the world divided into the proud and the just.

The just shall live by faith. (Habakkuk 2:4)

The proud are as greedy as the grave and are never satisfied.

Greedy as the grave

How many people died in the world yesterday?

I do not know.

Actually, I do know…. not enough died… because death is coming back today and every day until the end of the age.

Proud people are like death. They are never satisfied. They are never content.

Contentment

Most Christians try to paint a Christian covering on their life in their culture.

They are not Christian to the core but covered with a Christian veneer.

In our busy, acquisitive culture, they are busy and acquisitive.

Jesus promised rest and peace but most of us do not want this. (Matthew 11:28)

Paul was an active, busy man to say the least. He said had learned to be content in all his circumstances, from prison to an active missionary life.

We have a calligraphy of his advice to Timothy that godliness with contentment is great gain. It hangs where we often see it as we move about the condo. (1 Timothy 6:6)

A contented person is satisfiedwith God’s provision for their needs. (2 Corinthians 12:9; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; Hebrews 13:5).

Contentment is a virtue we need to see in our lives
